A tennis tournament was held, under the aegis of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE)

On 26th September 2022, an event was hosted by St Francis Xavier School, Salt Lake. Approximately 240 students from all over India and the UAE have registered to participate in the event in the Boys & Girls under 14, 17 & 19 categories. ISCE National Sports & Games Tennis Tournament 2022 under the aegis of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) was inaugurated at Bengal Tennis Association, Kolkata.

Mr. Ajay Chopra, Secretary & Administrator, St Francis Xavier School, Salt Lake said, “It is a matter of great pride and privilege for St. Francis Xavier School to host the CISCE National Lawn Tennis Tournament 2022 which is seeing tremendous participation from all over India and even the United Arab Emirates. Approximately 250 participants have registered for the tournament after winning at the regional level tournaments organised in the twelve zones. St. Francis Xavier School and its management, staff and students are excited to play host to the schools and ensure that the tournament is held in the highest spirits of sportsmanship and that a team emerges which can bring laurels for the Council at the forthcoming SGFI and Khelo India games.”

Council also says that has always given overall stress on students. Sports, therefore, become an integral part of the curriculum of a CISCE affiliated school. It is the Council’s aim to provide a suitable platform and an opportunity for all children studying in affiliated schools to showcase their talents and skills in various sporting disciplines. Once identified, the next step is to play on a bigger stage and represent the Council at the annual National School Games conducted by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) and thereafter at the Khelo India School Games. The winners of this tournament will get an opportunity to represent the CISCE at the Khelo India games. About 250 students from 12 zones shall be participating showcasing the best upcoming tennis talent of the country who will be representing CISCE at the SGFI and the Khelo India Games.

The CISCE National Sports & Games Tennis Tournament 2022 started in the morning after an opening ceremony which was presided over by Mr. Manoj Tiwary, Hon’ble Minister of State for Sports & Youth Services and was attended by: Mr. Nitin Kirtane, Tennis Player (Gold Medalist); Mr. Arijit Basu, Deputy Secretary (Finance), CISCE; Mr. Ranjan Mitter, Principal of Future Foundation School & the regional coordinator for the CISCE games; Mr. Sujoy Biswas, President, Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate, National Body & Principal of Ram Mohan Mission School; Mr. Ajay Chopra, Secretary & Administrator, St Francis Xavier School, Salt Lake, Mr. Anil Srivastava, Officiating Principal, St Francis Xavier School, Salt Lake and many other eminent personalities. The tournament will end on 30th September, 2022 with the Prize Distribution Ceremony and Closing Ceremony to be presided over by renowned legendary ex-tennis professional player, and present day coach and manager Mr. Jaidip Mukerjea.
