The managing director of a printing press, Pratin Khanra, has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident in which an Aliah University student was killed. Khanra was allegedly driving the vehicle at the time of the accident and fled the scene.
He was arrested at his in-laws’ house in Birati, India, and has confessed to being the driver. Khanra has been charged with multiple offenses, including culpable homicide and rash driving. He was remanded in police custody for six days after appearing in court on Tuesday. The accident occurred near the Aliah University campus and the victim, Shakil Ahmed, was a final-year postgraduate student of geography. The incident is being investigated by the Bidhannagar police commissionerate.
