Arijit Singh’s Kolkata Concert Cancelled

Arijit Singh, a popular singer, was at the center of a controversy after his scheduled concert in Kolkata was cancelled by a government body. The BJP claimed that the cancellation was due to Singh singing his popular song “Rang de tu mohe gerua” in front of the chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, at the inauguration of the Kolkata International Film Festival.

However, West Bengal minister Firhad Hakim stated that the cancellation was due to a G-20 event being scheduled in the same location and concerns about potential overcrowding and law and order issues. Singh’s concert was originally scheduled for February 18, but it has been moved to another location. Amit Malviya of the BJP also alleged that a show featuring Salman Khan, scheduled for January 20 at the same venue, was not cancelled. A similar controversy occurred earlier when the Bengali movie “Projapoti,” starring Mithun Chakraborty and Trinamool MP Dev, was not released at the government-run Nandan theatre. The BJP claimed that the decision was due to Chakraborty’s involvement with the party
