Attempt to murder for dowry
An allegation was made against the husband and in-laws of trying to kill a housewife by hacking her for a mobile phone. The affected housewife is undergoing treatment at Malda Medical College and Hospital. The incident took place on Saturday night, in Pathantuli area of Jadupur No. 1 village panchayat of Englishbazar police station. The family of the affected housewife filed a written complaint with the Englishbazar police station against the accused husband Omar Sheikh and her family members. According to police sources, Omar Sheikh, a resident of Pathantuli, got married to Fatema Bibi (24), daughter of Alamgir Sheikh, a resident of Sonatala area of Jadupur under Englishbazar police station. 60 thousand rupees and a motor bike were given as dowry in marriage. It is alleged that the in-laws along with the husband were physically and mentally torturing the housewife for demanding money. The family of the husband and father-in-law demanded Rs 2 lakh as a pledge from Fatima Bibi’s family. As she could not pay, her husband and in-laws severely beat her and hit her on the head with sharp weapons that night. The accused ran away when the housewife screamed. After that, the affected housewife was admitted to Malda Medical College Hospital at night for treatment. The housewife is currently under treatment in critical condition. The family member of the affected housewife filed a written complaint against the accused in the police station. The police of Engrezbazar police station has started an investigation into the whole incident
