On Thursday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that Bengali is the second most commonly spoken language in Asia and the fifth most spoken language in the world, and congratulated West Bengal Governor Dr. CV Ananda Bose for his interest in the language.

“We must remember that we should learn the local language whenever we stay,” she added.

The relationship between the Governor and the state BJP president has reportedly been strained due to the party’s claims that the Governor is too closely aligned with the ruling Trinamool Congress. The Governor also used the slogan “Jai Bangla,” which is commonly used by Chief Minister Banerjee, at an event on Thursday. It is reported that Governor Bose has been called to New Delhi following a spat with the state BJP head.
