BJP, Cong protest seeking Kolkata mayor’s resignation

The BJP and parliament held a protest rally in Kolkata on Thursday to demand the resignation of Mayor Firhad Hakim over a surge in dengue cases in the city.
Carrying placards with faces of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her ministerial colleague Firhad Hakim, the protesting BJP youth wing workers led by party MLA Agnimitra Paul demanded that Hakim should resign as Kolkata mayor.
BJP workers were demonstrating at Bow Bazaar while Congress protested at Park Circus. Police intervention quelled the protests. On Wednesday, the state health department released 14 recommendations to combat the dengue threat. Hospitals are asked to regularly monitor patients admitted to dengue wards.The total number of dengue cases for this year has not yet been released. The state government claims that every possible effort is being made to combat the dengue epidemic and is conducting campaigns to keep people informed of the situation.
