CPM leader, Former Bengal Minister Passes Away at 67

Manab Mukherjee, a former West Bengal minister and veteran CPI(M) leader, died here on Tuesday after suffering a cardiac arrest, a party press release said. Sources said he was suffering a heart attack and was taken to hospital. He served as a left-wing government minister from his 1996 to his 2011 holding a diverse portfolio including tourism, the environment and information technology.
According to CPM sources, Mukherjee’s body will be kept at Peace Haven after cornea extraction. He had pledged to donate his body. It will then be brought to the CPM’s regional party office at Beliaghata and finally to Alimuddin Street where party leaders and workers will pay their last respect. The former minister’s body will be donated to Calcutta Medical College thereafter.
