Documentry: India’s Sons- “Tale of False Rape Case Survivors”

A compelling documentary about fabricated cases of sexual assault, India’s Sons, screened in Kolkata.

The critically acclaimed documentary “India’s Sons – Tale of False Rape Case Survivors” was screened in Kolkata. The movie follows the journey of the innocent men and boys who were falsely accused of rape in India and later cleared with honour. Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj and Neeraj Kumar co-directed the movie, which was produced by Shonee Kapoor, Sahodar Trust. Actor Karan Oberoi stepped into the role of the narrator. The movie screening was organised by Avijan Welfare Trust. At the occasion, which was planned for the evening of International Human Rights Day, the seventh edition of Purush Katha Patrika was also published.

When addressing the audience, Gourab Roy, the founder of Avijan Trust, said, “We are honoured to screen India’s Sons in Kolkata as it’s a documentary depicting pain of men who are falsely accused of Rape. It’s been five years since we have been running Avijan Welfare Trust & helping men in West Bengal. We plan to have the organizations presence in every nook and corner of the state in next two years.”

The film’s director, Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, said “False rape cases are destroying lives across India. If abuse of rape laws is not addressed, there will be a day when it will be called legal terrorism just like IPC 498A and that would be very sad as rape is a heinous crime. I hope people watch this film and raise voice against the menace of false rape accusations.”

Among the guests were, Deputy Commisioner of Police Sidhartha Chakraborty, DSP Joydeb Basu, Jayanta Ghoshal a renowned veteran journalist and Debangshu Bhattacharya.
