ED : It was not right to stop Menaka

ED or Enforcement Directorate lawyer SV Raju told Calcutta High Court that it was ‘not right’ to stop Trinamool All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s sister-in-law Maneka Gambhir at Kolkata airport on her way to Bangkok. But at the same time he said that Menaka was not stopped intentionally. Therefore, there can be a complaint of harassment, not contempt of court.

Menaka was going from Kolkata to Bangkok late at night on September 10. Before that, the ED issued a ‘look out notice’ in her name. In this context, the immigration department stopped her at the airport.

On reaching the airport that night, she was notified. Following the incident, Menka filed a contempt of court case in the High Court.

Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya summoned the ED’s statement in the contempt of court case filed by Menka. In that case, the lawyer of ED said that it was not right to take measures like detention. The judgment of this case may be announced today, Friday.

Menaka was summoned to Delhi by the ED in a money laundering case. She filed a case in Calcutta High Court against that summons notice. Justice Bhattacharya ordered in that case that Menka should be interrogated in Kolkata. And strict action cannot be taken against her
