ED’s plea for custody of Sehgal dismissed by court

On the day when the CBI added the name of Anubrata Mondal to the chargesheet and claimed that he had made a huge wealth through cow smuggling, his close aide Sehgal Hossain was taken to Asansol Jail to be interrogated. Sources claim that the central agency has also started looking into where the cow smuggling money went. ED questioned Sehgal for four hours on Friday. They also petitioned the court to seek Sehgal’s custody but it was rejected. ED may question Sehgal again today, Saturday. According to ED sources, Sehgal was arrested today for non-cooperation in the investigation. Later, ED filed an application in the Asansol District Court pleading with Judge Ratna Roy Biswas to seek custody of Sehgal. ED lawyer Abhijit Bhadra said that the judge said that he would not be able to hear their plea on time. After that, the ED officials left for Kolkata.
Meanwhile, the judge called the ED back to court. The ED officials came to the courtroom around 6:30 PM. The court accepted their “petition”. Abhijit said, “At around 9 pm, the judge informed him that she is the acting Judge of the retired assembly. As a result, she is unable to make a decision on this matter. Consequently, our petition has been dismissed by the court. “
An ED source claimed that the whole situation may be discussed with the higher authorities and a plea may be filed in the High Court. An investigating officer said, Sehgal was arrested but not in transit remand custody. As a result, the days of police custody will continue to decrease, and the investigation process will be disrupted. On September 28, ED lawyers approached the special CBI court judge in Asansol to interrogate Sehgal. The judge granted the request. After that, ED questioned him on that day.
