Government moves forward with NRC

The Union Home Ministry plans to create a database of all Indian citizens in the country. Where birth and death information of citizens will be recorded. At present this information is maintained through the local registrar of the state. The national database of births and deaths is considered to be the initial preparation of the central government’s National Register of Citizens (NRC). It is reported that the government wants to link such a database with voter list, ration card, Aadhaar card, passport and even driving license. It is decided that the Registrar General of the country will be in charge of the national database and coordinate with the state governments.
A note regarding this decision has already been prepared by the Union Home Ministry
It has been done and it will soon be submitted to the Union Cabinet for approval, according to sources. It has also been reported that the birth and death registration act may be amended to create a national database. It will not be surprising if the Bill is introduced in the winter session of the Parliament.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had announced the plan of nationwide NRC on behalf of the Center long ago. But the central government did not want a fresh debate on the NRC after the storm of protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Although there has been no special movement regarding NRC for Covid for two years, this time the government wants to take forward the work of NRC again
