During the celebrations, the political parties are making every effort to engage with the general population.During this festive season, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was spotted both physically and virtually opening at least 400 Durga Puja Pandals. The chief minister was seen singing Chandi sloka and dancing to the beats of Dandiya in addition to playing traditional Dhaak.Along with Banerjee, prominent TMC ministers and leaders could be seen having fun and mingling with the public during Durga Puja.TMC minister Chandrima Bhattacharya was spotted playing Dhaak with festival attendees and celebrities at Hindustan Park and at Arup Biwas’ own puja at Suruchi Sangha.

The BJP took part in the opening of the Puja Pandals as well. At the Eastern Zonal Cultural Center, a few BJP leaders were also seen hosting their own Durga Puja (EZCC).

It should be noted that the BJP has maintained the theme of “atrocities against women and post-poll violence” for their Durga Puja.The elder brother of BJP cadre Abhijit Sarkar, whose death was allegedly caused by TMC thugs last year following the announcement of the Assembly results, Biswajit Sarkar, hosted a Durga Puja with the theme “Mayeder Kanna, Roktakto Bangla” (Cry of mothers, bloodshed in Bengal).Black material was used to create the pandal for the puja, which represented the post-election violence in the state. The Goddess’s idol was kept in complete darkness, and laments were being played.Santosh Mitra Square, the home of BJP leader Sajal Ghosh, also bears the influence of the saffron movement. There, “Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” is the central focus.
