Seven people, including a pilot, were killed after a helicopter carrying Kedarnath pilgrims crashed in Uttarakhand, officials have said. The helicopter was carrying pilgrims from Phata, reports said. An administration team has left for the spot for relief and rescue work, reports added.
“All seven onboard have died,” Rudraprayag District Disaster Management official confirmed.
“Very sad news of some casualties in the unfortunate helicopter crash at Garuda Chatti near Kedarnath. SDRF and district administration teams have reached the spot for relief and rescue work. A detailed inquiry has been ordered into this tragic incident,” CM Dhami tweeted.
Earlier, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia tweeted that the ministry is in touch with the state government and is constantly monitoring the situation. “The helicopter crash in Kedarnath is extremely unfortunate. We are in touch with the State government to ascertain the magnitude of the loss, and are constantly monitoring the situation.”
