Official NIRF Rankings 2023 Announced; IIT Madras Retains the 1st Position while IISc Bangalore follows
The National Institutional Rankings Framework (NIRF) 2023 was released on Monday morning, here’s everything you need to know about it

India: The Minister of State for Education and External Affairs Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh announced the official release of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 on 5th June, Monday. Announcing the release, Singh said, “Ranking and accreditation are vital for evaluating the quality of education provided by Higher Education Institutions. I am delighted to observe that the NIRF Ranking has undergone a positive transformation since its inception in 2015. It has served as a valuable tool for students in selecting universities based on their interests and subject domains in Higher Education institutions. Along with this, it has also helped the Institutions in identifying areas for improvement in teaching, research, resources, and other aspects. NIRF has fostered a culture of data organisation and curation among participating Institutions promoting healthy competition at national and international scales”.
According to the official rankings, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru secured the top position in the research category. IIT Madras (for the 8th consecutive year) secured the first position as the best engineering college followed by IIT Delhi in second place, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Roorkee.
About the field of law, National Law University (NLU), Bengaluru secured the first position followed by NLU Delhi and ranking third is NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.
The Chairperson of NBA, Anil Sahasrabuddhe said, “With 13 categories, this edition of NIRF is the largest in its scope to date.
First started in 2015, the NIRF’s overall ranking is prepared based on the parameters such as teaching, learning, resource quality, research, professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach, inclusivity and peer perception.
