Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Wednesday that customers do not need to visit the bank for re-KYC (know your customer). You can do it online, unless your address has changed. The governor answered questions at a press conference following the monetary policy announcement.

Based on Reserve Bank of India guidelines, banks are required to update KYC at regular intervals to update customer records. If personal or contact information changes, the customer can update their records via her Re-KYC. According to RBI’s KYC standard guidelines, banks are required to update the account holder’s customer ID document from time to time. In addition to the KYC that is performed when opening an account, KYC may be performed again and we may ask you to submit the necessary documents.
