Ready to deal with Covid -19 : West Bengal to Centre

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that West Bengal will not impose new Covid restrictions, especially during the upcoming Christmas celebrations and Gangasagar Mela. Speaking at a virtual meeting chaired by Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Bhattacharya. He said that West Bengal will participate in a nationwide mock drill on 27 December, with a particular focus on oxygen facilities, ventilators, logistics and human resources. He said that he would make sure to develop the infrastructure that he had targeted.

“State governments are vigilant and ready to fight any situation of COVID-19.We also need to prevent panic among people about this,” Bhattacharya said as she attended from the State Secretariat said at the conference. We will also have exercises in West Bengal,” she said.

“West Bengal has 28 health districts with 35 RTPCR laboratories. Each district has a Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) and a number of beds and intensive care units,” she said. She also asked Mandaviya about the vaccine’s effectiveness against new variants of the virus. The meeting, convened in view of the recent surge in coronavirus cases in several parts of the world, the meeting was attended by health ministers and senior officials from all EU states and territories. The conference reviewed the readiness of public health systems to contain and manage COVID-19 and the progress of immunization campaigns.
