Russia warns of ‘World War III’ if Ukraine joins NATO.
According to a Russian Security Council source, if Ukraine joins the NATO military alliance , the war will inevitably worsen and turn into ‘World War III‘.
“Kyiv is well aware that such a step would mean a guaranteed escalation to World War Three,” TASS quoted Alexander Venediktov, the deputy secretary of Russia’s Security Council.On September 30, only a few hours after Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, formally proclaimed the acquisition of up to 18% of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a surprise application for fast-track membership in NATO.
President Vladimir Putin has criticised the United States for pushing NATO’s eastward expansion on numerous occasions, particularly for its courtship of former Soviet nations like Ukraine and Georgia, which Russia views as being inside its sphere of influence.
Last month, Putin warned the West that he would be ready to use nuclear weapons to protect Russia.The majority of nuclear warheads in the world are controlled by Russia and the United States, making them by far the two nuclear superpowers.
Furthermore, US President Joe Biden on Monday promised to give advanced air defense systems to Ukraine after Russian missile attacks in Kyiv and other cities.This latest development comes after 143 nations of the 193-member United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday voted in favour of a resolution condemning the annexation of four Ukrainian regions by Russia. India was among 35 nations that abstained from the vote.
