The Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away on Monday at the age of 82. The veteran leader had been under treatment at a Gurgaon hospital since August 22 and was shifted to the ICU on October 2. He had been in critical condition and on lifesaving drugs.

Uttar Pradesh government has announced a three-day state mourning for the demise of veteran politician Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Soon after learning about the demise of the SP founder, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recollected his relationship with the veteran leader and tweeted: “Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji was a remarkable personality. He was widely admired as a humble and grounded leader who was sensitive to people’s problems. He served people diligently and devoted his life towards popularising the ideals of Loknayak JP and Dr. Lohia.”

His last rites will be held with full state honours in Etawah district’s Saifai, his ancestral village Uttar Pradesh and Chief Minister Adityanath announced a three-day state mourning.
