Southern Command to organise ‘Vijay Run’ to mark India’s victory in 1971 war

To commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, the Pune-based Southern Command will host the Southern Star Vijay Run on December 16, as well as commanders in 15 other cities in Vijay Diwas. The theme of the event was ‘Run for Soldier – Run with Soldier‘, the Army said the purpose of the event is to strengthen the ties between the Indian Army and civilians, especially young people. “Vijay Ran attendees who pay homage to the martyrs will highlight our country’s skills, capabilities and energy,” an army press statement said.

“All sectors of society are invited to participate in celebrations held simultaneously in key locations including Pune, Secunderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and other major cities. On good occasions, a wreath laying ceremony is held in honor of the martyrs, followed by simultaneous ‘Victory Runs‘ at all major sites. In Pune, the blessing of Southern Army Commander Lieutenant General AK Singh will be given shortly after the wreath laying ceremony at the Southern Command War Memorial at 7am. The Vijay Run will consist of three categories, with 12.5km run separated by gender, 12.5km run for students, 5km run for students and 4km run for women only, South Kaman said.
