On Wednesday, two commuter trains collided sideways near a garage at Sealdah railway station in Kolkata. However, so far no casualties have been reported. According to the chief public relations officer (CPRO), one of the commuter trains was moving from platform #6 towards the depot and another commuter train from Ranaghat was entering Sealdah station when the collision occurred. A large crowd was seen in the truck after the incident.
The trains collided sideways and crashed into each other. Train services have been completely suspended at Shielda and restoration and maintenance work has already begun. Several train services were effaced due to the incident. Many local trains got stranded on the tracks just before entering the Sealdah station and people were seen walking on the tracks to reach their destination. There had not been any major damage to the rakes also. A committee has been formed which will investigate the matter and submit a report within the next 24 hours,” the Chief Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Railways said.
