WHO on four medical products
Four subpar items were found in The Gambia and reported to WHO in September 2022, according to this WHO Medical Product Alert. Medical products that are “out of specification” are those that fall short of the required quality standards or specifications.
Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, Makoff Baby Cough Syrup, and Magrip N Cold Syrup are the four products. Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited is the product’s listed manufacturer (Haryana, India). The claimed producer has not yet given WHO any assurances regarding the reliability and safety of these products.
Laboratory examination of samples from each of the four items reveals impurities such as diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol at prohibited concentrations. These four products have so far only been found in The Gambia, but they may have travelled to other nations or areas via unofficial marketplaces.
